From having previously been a producer of milk, Malmgård changed orientation and became a producer of grain with production of its own beer. This required, however, an entirely new power feed, and this is where a Kabeldon distribution Malmgård’s Brew Master, Tuomas Markkula has been with the brewery from the start, helping to renovate the 100 year old building and brewing his first beer here in 2009. All of Tuomas’ beers are made with organic Finnish barley malts and ancient grains are grown on the estate. The estate has been owned by the Creutz family since 1614. In 1606, We were given a tour of Malmgard, a castle dating to 1600's by the actual Count Creutz. He gave a guided tour of his home as well as the history of the property. We then had a light lunch, served in what used to be the home of the dairyman, now a small cafe. In the estate shop we grind and sell our organically grown cereals, including wheat, rye, barley, oats, spelt, emmer, “lantvete” and “svedjeråg”. Even the cold-pressed turnip rape oil is grown on our fields. In our shop we also sell jams, jellies, juices and vinegar from our gardens.

The history began in 1606 when Carl IX of Sweden donated 30 local farms to Estonian war widow Catharina Hess von Wichdorff. She later married Ernst (Larsson) Creutz from the near Suur-Sarvilahti manor house and Malmgård was Malmgård Estate (Swedish: Malmgård Egendom) dates back to the early 17th century and since then it has remained in the same family (Creutz).
